They also collaborate with local initiatives to make healthy food accessible to everyone, including those with limited budgets. Looking ahead, they aim to achieve a NetZero energy consumption by the end of 2025, utilizing technologies like solar panels and energy-efficient systems to make a lasting impact on the sustainability of Amsterdam's food chain. Tuintje van Adam originated from an ideological standpoint regarding food production in Amsterdam. Our goal is to become a permanent part of the Amsterdam food chain by contributing to a sustainable and healthy food system for everyone. We cultivate our gourmet mushrooms using sustainable urban farming. This enables Amsterdammers to discover new food varieties and brings them closer to their food. Thanks to techniques such as vertical farming, we make optimal use of every square meter without compromising on quality or yield. In the heart of Amsterdam, in the vibrant De Baarsjes neighborhood, the story of Tuintje van Adam began. Founded by Chris Bondam with the vision to grow food in the city, for the city, Tuintje van Adam symbolizes innovation and sustainability in an urban environment. The first days were filled with challenges, experiments, and valuable lessons in the art of urban mushroom cultivation. A special moment that defines us is how we managed to set up a fully functioning farm with less than 500 kg of construction waste. To make our processes more efficient and sustainable, we have developed our own machines, including our bag filler and an innovative steam room. These technologies enable us to produce 600 substrate bags daily. At Tuintje van Adam, everything revolves around the city and its residents. In addition to our weekly presence at the markets in Amsterdam-Noord, we organize workshops where we teach people about mushroom cultivation and sustainable production. Furthermore, we are committed to the community by reserving a portion of our production for Amsterdammers with a smaller budget. In 2025, we will launch a pilot to further expand this support. We look forward with pride to our ambition to achieve NetZero energy consumption by the end of 2025. By using technologies such as solar panels and energy-efficient systems, we strive to make a lasting impact on the sustainability of the Amsterdam food chain.
