Growing Green Proteins consists of pilots, a challenge and many knowledge meetings. Together with other governments, entrepreneurs, educational researchers and trainers, we are capitalizing on the opportunities of plant-based proteins and accelerating the entire transition. We look at the entire chain: from production and processing to sales and demand, where we work together on innovation throughout the chain. How do we ensure fair, safe, sustainable and healthy food in the future? It is an immense issue and yet one of the solutions is right in front of us every evening: more vegetables on our plates. Choosing a different ratio between animal and vegetable proteins. As simple as that. By filling 80% of our plates with vegetables, mushrooms, nuts and seeds, we can drastically make the food system more sustainable. We reduce our CO2 emissions, improve soil quality and biodiversity and, as a bonus, we also become healthier. In the provinces of Flevoland, Overijssel, Gelderland and North Brabant, there is a lot of energy among entrepreneurs, social organizations, knowledge institutions and governments around the theme of sustainable protein supply. We therefore work together structurally on the subject of vegetable proteins, with the aim of synergy and acceleration of initiatives. The collaboration is about building and exchanging knowledge and practical experience and driving innovations and new revenue models. Joining forces is very important at the moment. Innovations do not happen automatically due to entrepreneurial risks, network failure, market failure, etc. Knowledge is often lacking and opportunities are not sufficiently recognized. Flevoland has therefore taken the initiative, together with the other provinces and together with the government, entrepreneurs, training and research & development, to fulfill the Dutch ambition of the European Protein Plan that is being developed. Although the four provinces mentioned above are initiating the collaboration, it will be widely open to other stakeholders to join.
