Terres Univia is the French interprofessional organization for vegetable oils and plant proteins. It brings together the main professional associations and federations involved in the production, marketing, processing, and first use of oilseeds and protein-rich crops such as rapeseed, sunflower, soybean, flax, olive, peas, faba beans, lupin, dehydrated alfalfa, lentils, and chickpeas. The organization represents the sector to public authorities and works to support the development of the oilseed and protein crop value chain. It positions itself as a collective body that helps structure the sector, improve knowledge of markets and production, and promote plant-based oils and proteins across food, feed, energy, and bio-based materials uses. Core Values Collective action : The organization is built around bringing together the sector’s main stakeholders and harmonizing professional practices and relationships. Sustainability : Terres Univia emphasizes environmental performance, low-carbon strategies, biodiversity, reduced nitrogen inputs, and the role of legumes and oilseeds in more sustainable farming systems. Protein sovereignty : A recurring theme is strengthening French and European protein autonomy by developing local sources of plant proteins and new outlets for growers. Knowledge and transparency : It values data-driven decision-making through observatories, statistics, and annual reports that make the sector more legible to stakeholders and policymakers. Unique Aspects Official interprofessional status : Terres Univia is recognized by public authorities as an interprofessional organization in France since 1976 and in Europe since 2013. Broad sector coverage : It spans both oilseed crops and protein-rich crops, linking agricultural production with processing, first use, and downstream applications in food, feed, energy, and bio-based products. Structured collective financing : Its actions are partly funded through the CVO mechanism, with three-year action plans approved by its general assembly and validated by the Ministry of Agriculture. Named sector initiatives : It has launched recurring observatories and strategic programs such as OléoProtéines, the Durability Observatory, the Protein Plan, and the 2024-2026 interprofessional action plan. Cross-sector decarbonization work : Terres Univia and Intercéréales jointly built a decarbonization roadmap for major crops and later contributed to the MECODEF project to align agricultural sector roadmaps.
