Greenport West Holland is a triple helix organization that brings together entrepreneurs, governments, and knowledge institutions to foster a sustainable and vital future for the regional horticulture cluster. It is recognized as the world's most innovative region in greenhouse horticulture and fresh logistics, hosting leading growers of vegetables and flowers, as well as suppliers, trading companies, breeders, consultancies, and personnel services. This collaborative network focuses on solutions for efficient water usage, smart logistics, safe food production, healthcare, and the development of green urban districts. Situated in one of the most crucial horticultural regions globally, West-Holland boasts a concentration of advanced production, delivery, trade, and logistics facilities. It includes entities such as importers, exporters, packers, cold storage, growers, breeders, and various logistics services, all interconnected to produce high-quality food and floral products. Greenport West-Holland’s companies leverage their expertise to share knowledge internationally, evidenced by numerous foreign trade missions and government delegations seeking insights from the region. The Greenport is active in EU collaborations, such as the European Regions for Innovation in Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ERIAFF), and is involved in projects aimed at advancing the biobased economy, digitalization in horticulture, and enhancing knowledge transfer across European clusters. Notably, West-Holland has developed water-efficient practices, using an average of only 12 liters of water to grow 1 kilogram of tomatoes through advanced techniques like closed climate control systems and rainwater recycling. Greenport West-Holland aspires to be the global horticultural hotspot for food supply, health, and well-being, characterized by innovative logistics solutions and a dynamic mix of SMEs and large international firms.
