The Hemus Foundation strives for the development of sustainable, innovative forms of agriculture. This by bringing agriculture and nature together. Our ambition: robust agricultural systems with a profitable revenue model. The Hemus Foundation wants to realize the transition to nature-inclusive agriculture. Organic farming is the starting point. We cannot make this dream come true alone: community involvement is of great importance. We are always looking for more other parties (such as farmers, nature managers and the urban environment) to participate. We want to inspire and show together that it is possible. In this way we ultimately increase biodiversity together. "There is a future for (large-scale) profitable agriculture, where organic agriculture and nature are fully integrated and biodiversity improves. We believe in that and we strive for it. We want to share our knowledge about a new way of food production and inspire others: farmers, nature and landscape managers, policy makers and citizens." Our ambition is that in five years, we will have created a profitable agro-ecological food production system in Flevoland together with our partners. The results: Biodiversity has increased. The level of food production is the same or higher: at the same time, the diversity of crops grown has increased. The quality of the food is high (think of taste and ingredients). The soil is fertile and provides water buffering and CO2 storage. The practical knowledge acquired is available to entrepreneurs, education and government. We continue to set up experiments and develop our knowledge.
