About BrewRight

BrewRight is a Dutch startup founded in 2023 by three master students at Wageningen University & Research. It is developing a carbon capture system for small and micro-breweries, with the goal of helping craft brewers become more circular and less dependent on fossil-based food-grade CO2.

The company positions itself as a practical sustainability enabler for breweries that want to reduce emissions but may not have the scale or resources for conventional carbon capture solutions. BrewRight says it has consulted with breweries throughout development to better understand their operational constraints and needs.

Core Values

  • Innovation for SMEs: BrewRight’s core belief is that climate challenges will not be solved unless innovative technologies are made accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Circularity: The company aims to help breweries become more circular by capturing and reusing CO2 generated during fermentation.
  • Sustainability: BrewRight is focused on making beer brewing more sustainable by reducing reliance on fossil-based food-grade CO2.
  • Practicality: Its system is downscaled for cost-effectiveness and compact enough to fit into a small footprint, reflecting a focus on real-world brewery constraints.

Unique Aspects

  • Purpose-built for small breweries: BrewRight is not targeting large industrial plants; its system is specifically designed for small and micro-breweries in the 500 to 10,000 hL/year range.
  • On-site CO2 reuse: The system captures fermentation CO2 and enables breweries to use it again for bottling, reducing dependence on external fossil-based CO2 supplies.
  • Compact footprint: The hardware is engineered to fit into a system footprint of only 1.5 × 1.5 × 2.5 meters, which is unusually small for carbon capture applications.
  • Startup support network: The company is supported by StartHub Wageningen and a board of advisors with decades of experience, which strengthens its early-stage development.
