About Terre en Vue

Terre-en-vue is a Belgian movement that brings together farmers, citizens, public authorities, and partner organizations to defend agricultural land as a common good and to improve access to land for agroecological, organic, and local farms. It works across several legal structures — an association, a cooperative, and a foundation — to combine project support, citizen mobilization, land acquisition, and long-term stewardship.

The organization positions itself as a practical land-access actor and a public-interest movement. It supports existing farms and new projects, helps connect farmers with landowners, accompanies public and private owners in managing agricultural land, and advocates for policies that protect farmland from speculation and preserve its food-producing role.

Unique Aspects

• Three complementary structures: Terre-en-vue operates through an association, a cooperative, and a foundation, each with a distinct role in project support, land ownership, and funding.
• Citizen-financed land access model: Its cooperative raises capital from citizen shareholders to buy farmland and keep it in agricultural use for long-term public benefit.
• European network roots: The movement helped build and participates in the European Access to Land network, alongside similar initiatives such as Terre de Liens and De Landgenoten.
• Documented scale of activity: By September 2022, Terre-en-vue reported 3,355 cooperative members, EUR 5.8 million in share capital, more than 168 hectares preserved, and support for around thirty farms.
• Broad partnership ecosystem: It works with farmer, citizen, and civil-society networks such as RéSAP, FUGEA, GASAP, and public-sector actors to remove barriers to land access and farm installation.
