De Insectenman

De Insectenman promotes the use of insects as a sustainable source of animal protein, highlighting their lower food and water consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. They advocate for the use of insect flour as a palatable way for consumers to enjoy the nutritional benefits of insects without seeing them. The company offers informative presentations about cooking with insects, which include tastings to showcase the subtle flavors. Services are available for various groups, including corporate events and school communities, with tastings customizable in scope and location. The Insectenman also introduces consumers to Beetles Beer, the world’s first beer containing insects, launched in 2016. This unique beverage features insects like crickets and mealworms and has received accolades, such as a gold medal for their Novel Blond beer at the European Beer Challenge in March 2024. In addition to beverages, they sell an assortment of insect products in their New Food Shop, including dried insects and insect flour, with all suppliers holding necessary certifications for human consumption. Currently, applications are in process with the European Commission for the approval of various edible insects, with oversight from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and compliance monitored by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
