About SETBIR
SETBİR (Türkiye Süt, Et, Gıda Sanayicileri ve Üreticileri Birliği Derneği) is a long-established Turkish industry association founded in 1976. It brings together leading companies active in the milk and red meat sectors, along with related producers and suppliers, and represents them as a sectoral umbrella organization.
The association positions itself as a bridge between the private sector and public institutions, working to support the development of Turkey’s dairy and red meat industries. It follows domestic and international market and regulatory developments, shares information with members, and aims to strengthen the sustainable production of animal protein while encouraging informed consumption.
SETBİR also works to raise the value and international visibility of Turkish milk and meat products. Through sector coordination, statistics, policy monitoring, and cooperation with national and international bodies, it seeks to improve the industry’s competitiveness and help members navigate changing market conditions.

Unique Aspects
- Founded in 1976: SETBİR has nearly half a century of experience and describes itself as one of Turkey’s most established strategic civil society organizations in food and livestock-related sectors.
- Broad sector umbrella: Its membership includes major firms in milk and red meat, as well as farms, feed producers, suppliers, and other industrial organizations, giving it a wide view across the value chain.
- Bridge between public and private sectors: SETBİR explicitly acts as a channel between companies and public authorities, helping translate sector needs into policy dialogue and practical coordination.
- International institutional links: The association works with national and international bodies such as the National Milk Council, the National Red Meat Council, TGDF, UN Global Compact, UECBV, CLITRAVI, and the SPES consortium, reflecting a strong networked position.
- Data and project activity: Beyond advocacy, SETBİR maintains statistics pages and runs or participates in projects on food systems, sustainability, waste reduction, and dairy education, showing a more active sector-development role than a typical trade association.
