Zeeland Bonenland: stimulating protein cultivation In the two-year project Zeeland Bonenland! ZLTO, CZAV, Herba ingredients BV and ME-AT Leeuwarden B.V. are working to stimulate protein cultivation in the province of Zeeland. Growers are better able to grow protein crops based on sound (cultivation) knowledge and market demand, and receive a profitable price for it. With a leading group of six farmers, four experts and one process supervisor, the project will work for two years on the basis of a number of research questions to increase the insight into a normal Zeeland crop plan with a protein crop and the environmental impact of such a crop plan. This activity will include cost-benefit analyses for 11 different protein crops. In addition, CZAV will have an update developed for the Check software program to provide insight into the environmental added value of protein cultivation on the entire crop plan. In cooperation with the other partners, Herba ingredients and ME-AT will carry out tests with the available legumes in order to arrive at a high-quality protein concentrate that can be used in food products that meet consumer needs. Thus (new) chains and new product-market combinations based on protein crops are created within this project.
